Pine is lighter weight than Basswood? Or do you mean lighter color?

I notice with my basswood paddles, it discolors a little in exposure to oxygen. Turns a little browner than the white it is when freshly planed or sanded.

: In the picture the white deck plank strips are Basswood and the thin side
: highlight strips are Pine. They look almost the same but the Pine is quite
: a bit lighter. If you want to save weight I would go with the Pine.
