The solid cedar paddles I've made have been between 25 and 32 ounces. The lightweight paddle was too thin and flexible for my taste. It seems that 30 ounces is a good weight for a cedar paddle, though it can easily vary from that due to density variations in the wood.
It seems to me that Greenland paddles feel considerably lighter than they are, since the weight is more evenly distributed along the length, rather than being concentrated at the tips as in a Euro paddle. Consequently, I don't go out of my way to try to make them light, I just shape 'em the way I like 'em and the weight is what it is.
