Almost all the hard woods bend easy. Maple, cherry, Ash and white oak are great. You can go super thin. I bent 1/4 x 1/4 red oak that I steamed in a 1/2" piece of plumbing copper tubing. I put an elbow on it and put it over a pressure cooker and fed the wood in. In about 5 min. it was like rubber.
But you can just gang up thin peices with no steaming as others mentioned.
