The height of the deck makes a difference in that it affects where the brace hits your leg. If your legs are more "splayed" out, as in fitting under a lower deck, the brace will hit almost mid-thigh without having to be very deep or radical.

If it's a high deck, your legs must remain more upright, and only your kneecap will touch unless you make a pretty deep "hook".

Sit in your sea kayak. Touch your knees to the underside of the deck. Carve foam (as a pattern) or wood (final) so it fills in the space where your leg doesn't touch the deck.
