Thanks for your answer. I still have difficulty following your thoughts. I can place a knee/thigh brace anywhere from where my knee is to lets say mid thigh. The location is arbitary since I am actually installing it. The further I move the brace to the seat the more I have to make it stick out from underneath the coaming. My knee is quite close to the front of the cockpit opening. I reduced the width of the standard Return cockit. Where is the optimum location - which position is most effective? Should I not make something permanent now and opt for some experimenting before committing??????? Even if wrap around is a personal choice, what is a good starting point?

: The height of the deck makes a difference in that it affects where the brace
: hits your leg. If your legs are more "splayed" out, as in
: fitting under a lower deck, the brace will hit almost mid-thigh without
: having to be very deep or radical.

: If it's a high deck, your legs must remain more upright, and only your
: kneecap will touch unless you make a pretty deep "hook".

: Totally personal preference.

: Sit in your sea kayak. Touch your knees to the underside of the deck.
: Carve foam (as a pattern) or wood (final) so it fills in the space where
: your leg doesn't touch the deck.
