This is the way it worked for me for making a temporary skeg. I cut the one you see out of 1 1/4" foam. I made this long verson and tried it out and it worked great. Then I cut it down to a smaller size using a fish fillet knife with is the best thing for cutting foam. The kayak still tracked great but not as good as the long version. I cut it down even smaller and it still tracked well but not as good as verson one and two. But this is a good way to get exactly what shape you want and works well for you. I was worried about the glueing of the foam to the boat causing a lot of problems not sticking and not coming off the boat. What I did worked real well, just an accident though. I first coated the boat and foam with the water cleanup type of contact cement. It doesnt eat up the foam but doesn't stick very good. Then I put a coat of regular contact cement on top of that, boat and foam. It stuck like it was welded on. When I went to take it off on the boat it streached like a rubber sergical glove and then pulled off conpletly clean, leaving no residue on the varnish.
