Speaking from my own experience, I would have been thrilled with a gap as small is yours. I used a lot of packing tape, and a lot of muscle, and squeezed as best I could. Then I ran some tape lengthwise down the seam on the outside. Then I glassed the inside seam. After the inside cured, I pulled off all my tape. Then I took my random orbital sander, and went to work on the outside seam. After evening everything out as best I could, I glassed the outside seam. Honestly, I started with a gap bigger than yours in places, and now you can't even see it. Well, I can see it, but nobody else can. I'm sure everything I just wrote has already occurred to you, but I just wanted to reassure you that it will work out.
