I'd be hesitant to leave on tape of any kind for a perior of months. It could be more of a mess to clean off if it has been on for a while. Pull it now and wrap the boat with a couple of straps, pulling in the wide areas, or use some sticks to force out the narrow areas. After it sits in storage with these constraints it may be closer to a perfect fit at assembly time -- and you won't have to deal with the residue of yopur packing tape interfering with the bond of your epoxy and glass tape at the seams.
