I used to cut scrap aluminum (like sliding door frames) with a carbide
tip blade on a power miter saw or table saw. But don't let the cut go crooked... it'll bite hard and throw the workpiec at you. With the throat plate that's not a problem because you can crew it into place.
BTW, I'm not really back, just passing through.
