When I have purchased kits or plans, they have always come with some sort of licensing agreement that restricts in some way how I may use them. I have also collected a number of books and articles that contain the necessary information to build a complete boat; Nick's book with offsets for three boats for example. Some day I will probably use some of this information either in part or in whole, but nowhere in the books or articles can I find what my obligations are to the designer. I don't want to slight anyone; perhaps someday I'll publish my own design and wouldn't like to be slighted. Can anyone enlighten me? Can I, for example build multiple boats, incorporate parts of a design into my own design, or sell boats that I have built from these designs?
