Ive used a heat gun made for remote control airplane hobbies ($16.00 new). They are not as hot as the ones used for electronics but hotter than a hair dryer.
It works great for strips that only need a gentle bend. This method works best on woods which are not kiln dried but is still usable with satisfactory results on kiln dried cedars. Soaking the wood first helps if the wood is kiln dried. Try to heat the wood as evenly as possible and bend the new strip before putting it in place.

: OK now I find that I need to steam some of the strips (particularly the deck
: sheer strip) on my Night Herron. Rather than try to build a 16' steam box,
: does anyone have alternative ideas? Do I steal my wife's steam iron and
: use this on various sections of the strip? Do I wet the wood in hot
: towels, and then dry with a dryer? What is the easiest workable solution?
: If I use a heat gun, will it affect the glue that is on adjoining strips?
: Thanks for the help. I could never have gotten this far without everyone on
: this BBS.
