I've been using a modified version (A cleated rail, like Pete's, instead of the Schade notched one) in the X boat. It is definitely the most comfortable rest I've used. It supports the entire foot rather than just the balls of the feet. Having an obstruction in the middle of the floor hasn't been a problem. The only complaint I have is adjusting it once I'm in the boat. It seems like it would be easy, but can be difficult due to your lack of leverage. Ben Staley and I discussed using a small ratchet like those found on snowboard bindings, but I haven't tried that yet. Perhaps if I'd stuck the the original notched design, I wouldn't have this problem.
