Right, the bottom of the mahogany beam will be epoxied to the bottom of the boat at the centerline.

The angles were ingeniously designed so that both the splay of the legs and the natural angle of the foot to the lower leg are supported in a neutral position.

Right, there is about a 2" gap all around it. Just enough room to stow a paddle or three.

No, the wings stand proud from the bottom, but rocking is not much of a factor. It's not rock-solid like conventonal footpegs, but when it's all snugged up the pressure of the feet tend to lock it all down nicely. And the compound leverage of the tension line allows it to get snugged down really tight, but it's easy and quick to reach down, pop the line and stretch your legs.
