Has anyone had any success using kiln dried yellow cedar for ribs on a Morris type skin on frame? I have not been able to find any kind of air dried or green wood around here (southern western Ontario). Resources such as Lee Valley Tools steaming booklet say emphatically no--never use kiln dried. Three guys in the local wood shop say they have often steam bent kiln dried wood and never heard of presoaking it, although they have never built a boat. I am reluctant to cut up a perfectly good length of yellow cedar if it is going to be useless as ribs. I need some advice from the building gurus here.
