Liz,
Nick Shade bent Alaskan Yellow Cedar for ribs on his SOF (see link below).
I am not sure if it was kiln-dried wood.
I tried to bend a cockpit coaming using 1/4" Spanish Cedar strips. This was kiln-dried wood of the type that is used for cigar boxes. It was a dismal failure. I soaked the wood for 5 days, then steamed it for fifteen minutes. I then tried to bend it within a couple of seconds of steaming. It was very brittle and just broke into pieces. I switched to red oak and used the same process and had excellent results.
