Epoxy: First varnish coat

Hi to all,
I´m just about finished with epoxi filling and sanding, or just about fed up with this, so I think I´ll call it a day and start varnishing. I thats as smooth as it get´s fine with me.
My q? : Can you varnish on sanded epoxi, dull looking due to the sanding. Will it become clear as with another coat of epoxi?
