All the books say feed the stock against the rotation of the bit. But some outside-the-box thinker suggested feeding cedar with the rotation instead, and discovered that the cuts went smoother, especially on the cove side with its knife edges. The key is lots of feather boards and a vigilant operator. A vertical feather board on each side of the bit, and matching horizontal ones to keep the stock snug against the fence are required. And never, but NEVER stand behind the piece. Always stand to the side, as you would with a table saw.
