The only Western Red cedar I was able to come up with locally did have knots. I ended up doing a fair amount of splicing, and used some of the knots. I was never able to get them totally fair - if you get in the right light they are a little "proud" of the rest of the surface. I like the looks, but next time I'll hold out for better stock.
