I started building a Cormorant 16 with a s&g hull and a stripped deck in December 2000. I got notice to move in January, right after I scarfed all the hull panels together. I wrapped the 16' panels with Visqueen, and duct-taped the wrapped panels to a 16' long 2x4. I then drove 370 miles with the wrapped "boat" on my roof rack, through ice, rain, snow, and winter road grime.

I haven't re-started the boat yet, but it has suffered no damage.

I wouldn't dare move it in any stage between flat panels and having the deck installed, though. If you go for installing the deck, Paul's advice is good. If you want to wait, get the panels scarfed and faired, and start ripping strips. you can also rough-cut station "forms" like Pete Roszyk described. Put everything together at your new location.

: I am about to start my first boat after being totally fed up with plastic for
: a while. Me being me I have decided to build my own design. While I like
: the stitch and glue for its speed of construction, I love the look of
: strip-built. So I have decided to stitch and glue the chined hull and
: strip build the deck. The idea is that I may be getting financially
: devastated by the taxman soon, and since I am going to be shortly moving
: to contracts in areas unknown I can take a week or so to rough the hull
: and the strips then carry everything with me to finish wherever I end up
: without spending a ton of money. I have another month and a half here, so
: I can get my equipment ready and at least get started. Anyone have any
: comments about my little project? All thoughts are welcome, good, bad or
: indifferent.
