: Time to commit. I've measured, cut, planed, aligned, stitched, aligned,
: checked, eyeballed and, to the best of my eyes, it looks straight. How
: much error can there be in the hull before you notice it in the water?
: What is considered the most important measurement and how do I sleep at
: night after putting down the epoxy and glass knowing my work is 'straight
: enough'?
: I've read about taking out the twist using winding sticks but, that just
: doesn't seem to be enough to ensure it's right. Am I being too precise
: with this or is there other ways to make sure you're straight?
: Thanks much for any help.
: PS The hull is the Guillemot S&G.

I don't blame you for being concerned ,this is a critical step and I remember going nuts myself at that point. When I stitched my Pax 18 I built a simple crossbar frame on to the 2 sawhorses and screwed and wired the sheer clamps to it.With the crossbars level I could run a spirit level along the full lenghth of the hull and twist and adjust the whole hull. There was a very slight twist at the tail that persisted so I screwed a stick to the sheer clamps near the back and tied one end to the ceiling and the other end pulled down to the floor to get rid of the twist. Then I glassed ,filleted and epoxied the inside and froze it straight.I also checked the ends with a plumb bob for twist.
I was a little anal at that point but now that the boat is nearing completion I feel good that I'm sanding my butt of on a nice straight hull.
Sounds like you will figure it out in the end so glass away.
