Yes, I measure down from the string. This way it doesn't even matter if the
strongback has a dip or a curve. Again, the string must be very tight. Unlike
Ted, I put sticks on the ends of my strongback for the upper string with sheet
rock screws in the ends. Tie off the the string as tight as you can, then you can
make it even tighter by turning the screws winding the string around the threads.

I dado a notch in the base blocks for the support brackets for the string that
runs on the surface of the strongback. Make that string tight also and don't
lay tools on it until you have more than a few strips applied.

This way the strings are independent of the strongback
