I am trying to find a Canadian source of cord suitable for lashing a skin on frame kayak. I can get artificial sinew in tiny lots at an exorbitant price. I found that Lee Valley Tools has a variety of whipping cord, and utility cord at much more reasonable prices.
The choices are
1) Whipping cord that is described in the catalogue as polyester fibre with beeswax coating at 40 or 100 lb. test.
2) Utility cord described as braided nylon cord at 45lb test, 96 lb test or 190 lb. test.
Do any of these sound suitable for lashing the frame? Does anyone have any suggestions for other materials for lashing? I tried our local tackle stores for seining twine, but it seems to be a coastal thing as it is not at all available here. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
