: We have just completed two stitch and glue kayaks and like the idea of
: fitting a small sail to assist with down wind travel. Does anyone out
: there have a simple design for such a thing that we could construct
: ourselves?
For neat, small sailrigs that don't require bulky, ugly, heavy leeboards, outriggers or other junk and don't require "hiking out" of the cockpit, see the sails that many of our club members use.
The New South Wales Sea Kayak Club (NSW, Australia) has tow articles posted on the web at
http://www.nswseakayaker.asn.au/mag/44/sailrigs.html and
http://www.nswseakayaker.asn.au/mag/36/osdgl.html
Of the two, the latter is easier to make and use. Mine is the former, and has had me going at up to 28 km/h (15 knots) for brief periods!
