I tried bleaching just the outside of a cedar strip canoe just before glassing. Bleaching only affects the surface so it has to be done after sanding. The wetting of the strips soffened the white glue and a couple joints started to open up. A quick drying a little glue and stapes saved the day, but I did have to fill and refair that portion of the hull. It did make the cedar nice and white until the epoxy wetted the wood and then the outside darkened up to match the unbleached inside. I did use an motor oil colored epoxy (Glen-L Poxy-Shield) so using a colorless epoxy might have different results. I would not attempt it again. But if you want to try it do some test panels first. By the way, I now prefer Raka (colorless, thinner, wets better and and even the fast hardener sets slower).
