: by the weight of the epoxy it replaces, and you probably are right in the
: ballpark at 2 lb. So, how much is it worth to you to know that your boat
: won't rot if you ding it on the rocks and water gets into the matrix of
: the cedar? 2 lb. doesn't sound like much of a penalty.

In that vein, I used an extra layer of 6 oz. glass on my Guillemot 18, simply for abrasion and light impact resistance. Putting it inside the hull would have made the boat tougher in a large impact, but it was the day-to-day stuff I was worried about.

So that extra layer of glass and epoxy is more than 2 lbs.

Using CPES under 4 oz. glass sounds even more promising. Ordinarily, I'd never have considered 4 oz.

: where most epoxy comes from. Coal tar based resins tend to be more brittle
: than wood tar based resins. CPES claims to make their resin out of the
: more expensive, more flexible wood tar resin. Therefore the boat, paddle
: or whatever is able to flex more without breaking, being strong but not
: brittle. Again, that is an advertising claim and I always take those with
: a grain of salt. If true, it's a small plus. If not, it isn't enough of a
