...that I referred to in an earlier post. I had a new Greenland paddle, saturated as per Rot Doc instructions 3 times wet-on-wet to rejection, which took about 1 hour. That was on a Tuesday. The following Sunday, there was a mild lingering odor but the surface felt hard. There was no discoloration, cloudiness or other indicia of the blush that we get with layup epoxies.
When immersed in the pool water, a slime developed that made the stick really slippery. It was totally unexpected. Ted Henry gave it a try and made the same observation. I took it out of the pool, hosed it off outside and the slime melted right away, and it has been fine ever since. But that raised a big red flag for me. My observation is that whatever this film was, it constitutes a potential bondbreaker for following coats. It may not be blush, but if you treat is as if it were there can be no mistake.
The cure time on this product depends on which formulation you buy. There is a standard, warm-weather formula and a faster-curing, cold-weather version. I used the cold-weather version, and at about 45* it was dry to the touch in 2 hours. So washing off the film could be done that soon.
The Rot Doc is up front about not having any experience with strip built boats. When I do the proposed test panels, I will do one with and another without rinsing, and report back on the findings. Fair enough?
