I have heard somewhere--maybe it was Pete who told me--that most "commercially available" solvents are not really the pure forms of those chemicals. What we buy as pure acetone is usually an industrial byproduct of 99% acetone, and 1% of whatever impurity the plant used the acetone to remove, and couldn't remove all of it.
Not that it affects most of our applications, but maybe it's that last little bit of impurity from each of that witch's brew of 18 VOC's that is left on the surface.
Like Nick said,
: It is possible the manufacturer does not completely understand every detail of
: the chemistry and molecular transfer of the product.
Or where his chemicals really come from. It's important to us that it works, but if there is a potential bond-breaker, it would be silly of us not to try to remove it.
Shawn
: It may not be blush. It is possible that the solvents in the CPES displace
: the natural resins in the wood and these rise to the surface.
: I would also speculate that the solvents in the epoxy may come to the surface
: as the epoxy cures so the "blush" could just be the solvents.
: I would expect that these solvents are compatible with any other epoxy you
: may want to use. They would just serve to thin the new epoxy and help its
: penetration.
: This is all speculation. Joe should talk to the manufacturer and not count on
: our inexperienced guesses. It is possible the manufacturer does not
: completely understand every detail of the chemistry and molecular transfer
: of the product. But, all he needs to know is how to make it work, the
: details are unnecessary as long as he can make it work as advertised.
