: My Wineglass wherry arrived yesterday. 3 boxes with a bunch of plywood. I
: read the beginning of the manual thoroughly 3 times and the rest just
: once. I placed the epoxy juggs in hot water for 2 hours. I removed vent
: plug in the basement so that I could get more heat in there. I live in
: Windham, Maine and even thought we had a very warm winter it still gets
: cold. First thing I realized was that I did not have enough space to build
: only on my woodworking table. So I used some carton boxes and some storage
: boxes to extend the current table. I laid out first half of the wherry and
: nailed the first pair to the table. I'm about to nail the rest of this and
: start planning on the fiberglass joinery. I have never worked with epoxy
: so the first step is scary.
Sounds like you're ready to " rock and roll." Don't worry too much, as everyone starts here. The epoxy is pretty easy, just wear some gloves, respirator and mix accurately. If you are going to use pumps ( whether supplied by epoxy dealer or store bought ) I would advise using a measured container to double check mixture amounts.
: I'm thinking about putting some plastic bag under the joints so that I don't
: glue the whole thing to my table.
You can get one of those blue( color? ) plastic tarps to cover the entire surface and they are reasonably cheap.
: I will probably get my flash and start taking pictures. I don't have digital
: camera though so the pictures will probably materialize later into the
: project after I scan them into my pc.
I have used a Polaroid One Step with mixed success, but my little 135mm has been great! Digital Not Required!
One thing I found worked for the pictures was when I bought one of the stand-up halogen lights mechanics use. I got a two light set-up from Sears and it is Really bright, and as an extra bonus, they put off some really great heat!! I will often have to turn one side off because I'm working close and they get too warm, even from a few feet away. They are around $30+ when you can find a good sale. Most hardware stores and on-line tool suppy stores have them.
Watch out with the camera though, I have found I'm spending about as much on pictures of my Rob-Roy as I have on the boat. I'm taking pictures of everything, from every angle and that's starting to add up.
Enjoy the building process as it will end soon, and there you will be, sitting there wondering...... What's Next!!!
