the main downside would be birds, bugs, bats, etc. who might like to try a novel domicile. Leave your hatches and cockpit open for ventilation but cover them with window screen to keep the rascals OUT!. Otherwise your porch should work fine. If it's visible from the street in some neighborhoods, your kayak might get "borrowed".
