you throw out the stapler and buy some strapping tape. Of course I'm assuming you're using staples.

With strapping tape you can put preload on the strip whereas staples only hold the strip down. Strapping tape is just about as easy as staples. You can strap a strip on one side, go work on the other side, then come back and do the next strip. Just about everyone that's tried has liked it.
