Yes, a Turk's Head knot looks great and is easy to do. I used 1/8" white nylon rope and then saturated it with varnish after it was in place on a cedar Aluetian style paddle. It made it a nice caramel color and looked real natural on the wood. However, it doesn't do a great job of keeping the water off the loom but it looks cool and nobody can figure out how you got it there since it doesn't seem to have a beginning or end. Make several wraps and it looks like a braided bracelet.
