I would strongly suggest doing a seal coat before using an epoxy based filler. The epoxy will soak into the surrounding wood and the color will not quite match the rest when you get to glassing.

Larger gaps should be filled with wood slivers glued in. Anything that becomes too small to conveniently fill with slivers is probably too small to be seen from a foot or two away.

The smallest of gaps will be filled by the epoxy itself during the seal coat. Any gaps not filled by this can be done with a quick epoxy sawdust mix without having the surrounding wood stained.

I usually add a some micro balloons to my sawdust - epoxy filler goop. It lightens the color to better match. There is a trick though. If you keep working the mixture into a small crack, the color will become lighter and lighter as more and more micro balloons and less saw dust fill the gap.
