Hi rb,

I don't know how much experience you have using an electric planer. I have hung a lot of doors using my Rockwell 126 (best door planer made, no longer being made now!!) and of course it is great for that purpose (having a fixed, adjustable "fence"). But I know that every other planer that I have seen on the market comes with a removable fence and COULD be used for this. I don't know how good you are with an electric planer. BUT I WOULD NOT use it on my boat, because it would be too hard to control for the fine tolerance needed in this application. I mean you could get in big trouble before you even know it. I wouldn't say it COULDN'T be done but it would take a very fine and experienced hand (more than my many years has given me). Besides the scraper is so good for this purpose that I can't see any reason to use this "baseball bat" to "kill a fly".
