I did the same thing, except I used closed cell foam (old sleeping pad) to make the bag. I duct taped the long sides, left the short sides open and added grommets to the four corners. I leave this fastened under the back deck bungees on my Spring Run. It holds the paddle more firmly under the bungees, prevents the paddle from slipping sideways during a reentry, and (last but not least) minimizes scratching my varnished deck! I can also use it as a seat during lunch.
