Ken, I'm sure you've seen Ross Leidy's OI construction pages. He seemed to have had good success making those extreme bends. Also, Ken Katz has done two of the things, so perhaps he'd have insight. Net net, it sounds like a good argument for 3/16-inch strips, at least in this area. Maybe a layer of 1/8-inch laid down first as a basis? Or just do it Rob's way: he's always got a practical solution. If you have to work with those thick strips, you could try some cross-grain kerf cuts of, say, no more than 1/8 inch. Try it out on some of the broken strips?
