: Chip: Sorry I didn't get to you before. Have you considered a Stanley 45
: Plane for the plowing of grooves? It's what I use for panel type furniture
: bld. They are available in an inexpensive "user grade" at
: Stanley 45. Its a guy in IL.
: You can get a few cutters that you anticipate using. It takes practice, but
: works well. - Scott

Hi Scott, I can always count on a good Plane conversation from you :) I happend to see one on a sale rack at the Garrett Wade retail store a few years back (I'm pretty sure it was a #45). I rember not liking the design that much; it just didn't feel solid. The one I handled looked like it had been returned and it didn't make a big impression on me. I should have bought it anyway - they're selling new ones for $250. For that $$$ I'd better see hearts when I look at it. Are we thinking of the same plane? I'll look into it anyway, how do I reach him?

I'm not a big expert on combination planes but my understanding is they don't always cut that well/tend to chatter... I guess I never saw a metal plough plane that seemed to justify all those adjustments when the wooden ploughs are so simple. Primus actually makes a new model http://www.fine-tools.com/G301053.htm Now THAT is what I call cool! It looks like it starts at about $350... I don't think so. What I'm thinking now is I'll find an old broken woody and fix it up.

I'm still interested in the #45 though, let me know how to get more info.
