Hi guys,
A number of people indicated a few months ago that they are building a Guillemot stitch and glue hull / cedar strip deck Hybrid. I'm curious on how they ar going.
As for me, I'm at the point where I've been stripping my deck for about a month... yet have not finished much. I just got some pictures back from the developer, hopefully I'll get them up on my web site by the end of this weekend (I have to re-install windoze on my confuser at home first, and stop watching the Olympics).
I chose to use modified versions of Nicks 'spacer' stations, making bridges out of them. The bridges made for using (mostly) stapleless construction easy. My first change if I were to do this again would be to make the first station of the rear deck a little lower. I'd also make an effort to make them more rounded at the top of the deck, I've left a considerable peak in the fore deck.
I'd also consider fiberglassing (or maybe just a pre coat of epoxy) on the hull prior to trying to do the deck. Just to help hold it in shape a bit better than it is now.
I really should be working....
