Kevlar is overkill. It will not save any weight and it will be impossible to make smooth without adding large amounts of epoxy. Just sand what you have and add another layer or two of fiberglass, and maybe add some graphite powder to your fill coats.
When bonded in epoxy Kevlar is not that resisitant to cutting from sharp objects. It is is resistant to abrasion because it fuzzes up so future abrasion is more difficult, but it still cuts fairly easily.
: I have an Endeavor with a cut in the bottom. I wish to remove the varnish to
: reach clean epoxy, add a kevlar bottom, and smooth it over with epoxy
: pigmented with graphite. My question is how best to reach the clean epoxy
: without either trashing the topsides and cutting in to the fiberglass? I
: am thinking that I should mask off the areas that I don't want to
: affect, and use a chemical stripper of some sort, assuming that it doesn't
: attack the epoxy. Do I need to run this one by WEST? Thanx, David Reid
