I'm glad to hear you have a good way to clear your head - gorgeous was probably an understatement for Yosemite today.

There is a big pile of mumbo-jumbo to wade through on theses topics, and we need to make a better effort to communicate it. Perhaps before forever, we can put together a useful guide. Until then, I honestly think Nick's book gives the best advice for those who don't want to be bothered with the techie stuff. He wrote something to the effect that "when in doubt, the standard lay-up will serve most people well". I see no safety issue here with construction, most of our stuff is overbuilt.
