Don,

Take a look at the style of recessed fitting on my Play. The dimples were made with a plunge router. I made a masonite plate for the router with cross hairs for alignment and tabs that let me tape it to the boat to prevent wandering. Stainless steel U-bolts were set in drilled holes that went through the deck in to a 1/2 in thick, 2 in diameter cedar puck bonded underneath. No nuts - just cabosile and epoxy.
