Review: Satin Weave Glass - I Like It A Lot

This was the fiberglass weekend. I'm layed up two layers of 3.2oz satin weave E-glass on my hull over the last two nights. I'm really pleased with the way it went. I had to put a lot of resin on to wet it out but I squeegee'd the heck out of it two or three times during application. I was surprised how much excess epoxy squeezed out from under the fabric (and onto my shoes :b)... surprised that it had floated so easily. Anyway, the finished result looks very professional - it has a surface texture about the same as blue jean material. When the time comes, I'll sand and varnish WITHOUT HAVING TO DO ANY FILL COATS - YIPPEE!

Application took about 4+ hours per layer. It's been several years since I finished my first boat but it seems like the satin weave is a lot easier to work with. One more layer on the center football section tonight and then it's time to finally get some sleep.
