: shoes )... surprised that it had floated so easily. Anyway, the finished
: result looks very professional - it has a surface texture about the same
: as blue jean material. When the time comes, I'll sand and varnish WITHOUT
: HAVING TO DO ANY FILL COATS - YIPPEE!

: Application took about 4+ hours per layer. It's been several years since I
: finished my first boat but it seems like the satin weave is a lot easier

Hi Chip

I've heard you mention NOT filling the weave a couple of times and I'm curious. Why would you not do that?? Wouldn't your glass be much more exposed to damage without the fill coat of resin to protect it?? If the glass fibers get cut, as in a scratch or gouge, that will weaken it's strength considerably, or so I've heard here.
