The shiny part of the hull next to the Jr. kayak expert, aka Jake, is the untouched fill coat after using the Cab-O-Sil. The rest of the bottom and sides have been scraped. After tying the scraping for the first time, I believe that you get a better idea of the fairness of the fill coat. I will follow up with a light sanding with my sanding board.

When I looked for my paint scraper I couldn't find it, so I went out to the car and grabbed the window scraper (I have one that has a soft metal blade) So thats what I have been using for scraping. I liked how it would actually bend slightly around the curves and would not dig in at all. The only problem is that it doesn't stay sharp.

Tonight I purchased another paint scraper from the hardware store and gave it a try. I will be returning it as the blade is cupped so the outside edged did in. I took one pull with it and will have to do a little work to fix where it dug in a little on the deep side.

Thanks again for all the input on final fill coats. When I get around to doing the final fill on the deck I will try your suggestions and let all know how it goes as I dispise sanding epoxy if it can be avoided. A quick scuff up is no problem, but I don't like having the epoxy dust in the house that comes from sanding out uneven coats and runs.

One more question for Nick: Do you clean the epoxy from your bristle brushes and reuse them, or do you toss them after each use?
