Hi Scott, I know how you feel. Adding a bold design to the boat is a big step. I think it would look great. You've got it very close. Others have helped my on this subject so here's my 2 cents. Get a copy of a real Japanese painting from the library and scale it up as precisely as you can. That will help get more detail into it which, I think, will make it look better. Dummy up one or two flowers in the wood you want to use, photocopy them and test the way they look. It will always look better in wood because your hard work and craftmanship will show.
