I can't explain it either, but paddles are fun. The plane, well, those little curls of pine or cedar, sliding away from a finely honed blade. The kids getting into the piles of shavings and you don't mind because they're really not dirty like sawdust. Then, until you paddled with those long sticks, it's hard to understand the full experience.
