as far as spare paddle bungies on the aft deck it's possible to reduce the contact with bungies that hold the paddle up off the deck so only the bungie is scraping the varnish. As far as putting stuff up under bungies I don't know what can work there without covering the varnish or inhibiting your ability to slide something under the bungie,,I mean varnish will scratch, and anyplace you put stuff will scratch the varnish. Black/grey non-skid tape works but the varnish will get scratched where there isn't any tape. sounds like your boat is getting used.
