You are on the right track, use your hand plane and bevel the twist into the strip.
Figure out where on the boat the bevel needs to begin, mark it on both the strip and the boat, then begin removing the inside bottom edge of the strip to match the bevel required for the strip to lay flat against your forms. The angle of the bevel will increase the closer to the bow you get.
You can use scrap pieces to practice with until you get the angles right.
If the strip still won't conform, wet it down well and clamp it in place, let it dry then remove and glue.

: I've completed the hull on my Night Heron, and am having a difficult time
: understanding how that first strip of the deck is going to be made. I saw
: some other posts on this in the past, but they don't seem to address the
: problem I am confronted with. The strip lays flat at the bow, and as you
: move back it becomes verticle. How do you bevel that strip, so that you
: have a flat surface to glue to? I can twist and bend it into position, but
: for a foot or so there is a transition from the side of the strip to the
: edge.I'm using regular strips for the deck. I must be missing something.
: Thanks
