I think that may be the case. Decks have little to do with the paddling capabilites of a kayak. So, you can make them in many diferent styles,shapes and sizes and it won't make a bit of diference in handling. The exception to this is of course when you are dealing with a strong wind, where a higher deck is going to catch the wind. Or in heavy seas where I've been told the deck might affect whether the bow rises on waves or punches thru them. And of course a higher deck will allow more storage space, and more foot room.

Maybe so. I'd worry about precise measurements on the hull, but on the deck? Why? It doesn't even need to be symmetrical. You can put in humps and bumps from compasses and bilgepump outlets, hatches, perimeter lines, bungee cords, spare paddle clips, and dozens of other conveniences on YOUR personalized deck. No reason I can see that it should be made to be like everyone else's deck.
