The original idea was to carve two or three Greenland paddles. I was going to have them do that during their down time while I am into the epoxy thing. But I think I like your idea better. If they all had their own paddle that would give us a few advantages:
1. 27 paddles are better than 2
2. the students can personalize their paddle (dimensions, finish, artwork, etc.)
3. they will probably take good care of it since they will make it themselves and it will belong to them
4. they will have it as a keepsake/momento of the kayak building experience
5. we could have one big kendo tournament when they are all done.

What do you think about length, wood choice, kiln dried or not. Their average height is around 5'5" but they will certainly 'grow into the paddle'.
