I built my Pygmy with 3 1/2 inches like instructed and it worked fine. I did use a few longer ones in odd places. My advice is to use the length that is easy to cut. Get a cup or glass jar that is 3 inches to 3 1/2 inches deep. Put the wire in till it touches bottom. Snip at top edge of cup. Repeat 200 times. Now you have all the correct length in a container.
